Pandemonium broke out Tuesday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Akure, the Ondo State capital when the supporters of the candidate of the party, Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu
(SAN) and those of his closest challenger, Dr Segun Abraham clashed over attempts to control the party secretariat.
The violent clash, which lasted about two hours, led to a number of party supporters and passersby, who were running for safety so as not to be caught in the melee, being injured.
The action, which worsened the crisis over the party’s primary, paralysed social and economic activities along the ever busy Oyemekun Road where the party secretariat is located. Many motorists had to drive against the traffic when the suspected hoodlums from the two sides took over one lane of the road.
The crisis according to eye witnesses started when the supporters of Abraham engaged in peaceful procession in order to further demonstrate their rejection of the governorship primary that produced Akeredolu as the candidate of the party.
