Alhaji Tanko Yakasai in an interview with the Guardian, said the problem facing Nigeria today is due to lack of program by the APC government when it came to power. He also pointed out that the problem with Buhari's ministers is not lack of capacity, but that the President misplaced them by giving them offices not fit for them.
He said, "I think there is a lot of misunderstanding. Under normal situations, the political party must consist of people who are committed to a certain programme. And then, that programme would be articulated among the party members."
"The APC should have put together, members who have ideas on different aspects of the economy and governance. Then it will be able to get people who will carry its programme and aspirations forward. But when a political party constitutes a group of people who bring themselves together by accident, and who have no commitment to the programme of the party, and the party itself is not able to articulate its programme, you end up with the situation we now find ourselves in."
Yakassai added that the APC came to power without a program.
He said, "At the time the APC won the election, there was no programme for the country. We only had a slogan, ‘Change! Change! Change! Change for what, we don’t know. The change had not been defined. So, that is the problem."
On Calla for Buhari to reshuffle his cabinet he said, "The problem is not reshuffling the cabinet. But does the President have people who are committed to his programme? And what are the programmes? With what we have today, Buhari can’t achieve anything."
