ONDO: Court stops INEC from replacing Jegede as PDP candidate

An Akure High Court Thursday restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from substituting or replacing the name of Mr Eyitayo Jegede as candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the November 26, 2016 governorship election.

This development came as another state High Court barred Prince Biyi Poroye from parading himself as a factional chairman of the PDP in Ondo State.

The ex-parte order granted by Justice William Olamide was based on the application filed by the Clement Faboyede-led PDP in the state.

Justice Olamide noted that it would be out of order for INEC to replace or substitute Jegede’s name pending the determination of the motion on notice as this would contravene the principles of equity, justice and fairness.

He directed the PDP to ensure service of the order herein granted, which is the motion on notice and originating summons on INEC before the next date of hearing fixed for the 7th of next month.
