A Govt that makes people Hungry, Angry, Sad and Frustrated is a total failure - Ajayi

Afenifere Chieftain And Former Commissioner For Education And Later Health In The Then Western Region, Sir Olaniwun Ajayi, in an interview he granted to New Telegraph, commends President Muhammadu Buhari for the success he achieved in the war against corruption. However, apart from the successes recorded in the anti corruption war, Ajayi describes the APC led federal government as a failure, saying that a government that makes people hungry, angry, sad and frustrated is a failure government.

Excerpt:

Why do you think that successive Nigerian leaders failed to plan?

I don’t know. But an example is the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is in government now. The party leadership didn’t tell us when they were campaigning that as a political party, they are going to do this or that. There was nothing like that.

But they made a lot of promises to Nigerians during the campaign…

The promises they made are empty promises. I don’t think any of their promises has been fulfilled. The only thing I know they are doing is the war they are waging against corruption, which is most welcome and for which they have my heart. I am very happy about that, but apart from that, they said they are going to bring change but there is no change.

Are you saying there is no change in the country in the last 17 months that the APC has been in charge of the Federal Government?

No! I have not seen any change.

In that context, how would you assess the Muhammadu Buhari administration?

It is a failure so far.

Why do you think the administration is a failure?

A government that is in power and making me very hungry and angry; feeling frustrated, sad and disappointed is not a government that has done well. It is a government that has failed.

In what specific areas do you think Buhari’s government has failed?

In all areas; the only area they are doing well is the war against corruption. I think the federal allocation they shared last month was the lowest for many years.

Today, many local governments have no money to run their programmes. In fact, they are not even allowed to run programmes. They don’t have money. So, the government is not one which we can write home about.

What are those things you expected from the APC that you are yet to see?

What I expect from the government is for it to take measures that would make me happy, satisfied and fulfilled. That is what I expected from the government.
