The financial challenge facing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has affected the payment of monthly staff salaries, sources told Daily Trust yesterday.
The paucity of funds, it was gathered, was responsible for the inability of the party to pay the accumulated debts incurred on the placement of advertorials in various national newspapers.
The development has also been linked to the on-and-off presence of some members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) who have bills to pay over the past two weeks.
A source said some of the NWC members had to “stay away to attend to their private businesses.”
Yesterday, it was observed that the praise singers, who normally stand at the main gate of the national secretariat of the ruling APC, had abandoned the location.
Though the reason for the development is yet to be ascertained, Daily Trust can confirm that the party leadership recently warned its staff to desist from seeking monetary assistance from visitors to the headquarters.
The party’s national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, had said in the past that APC was not immune to the current economic challenge in the country.
