Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, a former member of the PDP but now in the APC, has described President Muhammadu Buhari as a lesser evil compared to ex-president Jonathan. Datti also stated that most of the politicians in the APC today did not actually believe in Buhari, but only used his popularity in the north to win elections.
Also describing the APC as a Party without like-minds, he said there's a need to work out an alternative political platform to rescue Nigeria from the APC.
He said, "I think progressive like-minds have to come together and work out an alternative political platform and rescue Nigeria. By coincidence, interest of many aspirants in 2015 coincided, and the masses were in support of Buhari. Do they even know who Buhari is? Do they know what Buhari stands for? So long as the masses think Buhari, politicians said, ‘okay, let’s just support him and win our elections.’ That is why the APC is not doing well, that is why there is budget padding in the House today. APC has never been a political party of like minds. Dogara was from PDP, Jibrin was from PDP and because they stood no chance in PDP, they came to APC and used Buhari’s popularity in the gullible North to come to power.
"The removal of Jonathan can never be a mistake, it was not a bad thing but the election of Buhari is not a good thing either.
"If you consider the way Nigeria was in 2015 and how we wanted Nigeria to become after the elections, look at Buhari’s history and his performance. Buhari was not a suitable candidate but there was no better choice. He was the lesser of two evils.
"Performance has to do with somebody’s past, character, perspective and being in the same ship with like minds. APC did not provide that platform."
