The chairman of the Gwagwalada Area Council chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Usman Mohammed Giri, and 272 other members of the party, Friday, decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on behalf of the defectors at Gwako, the former PDP chairman said that they decided to join the APC because of the alleged injustice meted to him and some members during the just concluded chairmanship election in the area. He alleged that the selfish attitude of some of the leaders of the party led to the poor performance of the PDP in the just concluded chairmanship election in the FCT.
“And to make matters worse, money was given to the state PDP chairman from the national headquarters for area councils chairmanship election but they shared the money among themselves, which also contributed to PDP not wining even one area council,” he alleged.
The chairman of Gwagwalada chapter of the APC, Alhaji Haruna Deze, while receiving the defectors, commended them for their courage and joining the APC in the council.
When contacted, the chairman of the PDP in FCT, Alhaji Yahaya Yunusa Suleiman, said the party was unperturbed by the defection of the former PDP chairman and others.
