Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, said yesterday that some members and leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), are warming up to dump their party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“APC members and leaders are polishing their shoes to join us. Today, PDP is the most organised political party in Nigeria. PDP policies have remained unmatchable. We live by example; we are happy we have a new government (APC) that is copying from us and we hope they will copy well,” he said.
Though Ekweremadu did not mention any name, there are rumours that some aggrieved members of the APC, especially those facing corruption charges, and others who feel they are not being carried along, are planning to dump the ruling party.
Speaking at the opening session of the 71st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the PDP, held at the party national secretariat in Abuja, Ekweremadu urged their members to work hard towards repositioning the party.
He said the PDP had chances of regaining power at the centre in 2019.
He said the strength of the party would depend largely on the sacrifices and compromises made by its members.
He added that in the last seven days, he had received several calls from different individuals, who were concerned about the existence of the PDP, stressing that leaders must adopt democratic means of ensuring that the party did not die.
