We are better managers of economy than APC, says PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said events since its handover power to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015 have proved that the nation’s economy was better when it was in power.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), in August 2016, said the nation’s economy was worse in 29 years with 4.58 million jobs lost while the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) fell to a record low of 2.06 per cent.

The NBS declaring that the economy has gone into recession said the inflation rate also rose to 17.1 per cent.

The statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye observed that the ‘Transformation Agenda’ of the last PDP administration brought a lot of hope to Nigerians and the African sub region.

“Nigeria’s economy before handing over to the APC in May 2015 was declared the largest and the fastest growing in Africa (number 1) which is now nowhere near number 30. ‎Why is that? Incompetence it is!

“It is no gainsaying that the PDP had better policies and programmes of reforming Nigeria’s economy to provide better living condition for its citizens well-being, which it did,” the party added.

PDP noted that the economic recession has resulted in “extreme hardship, starvation, deprivation, insecurity and rise in ethnic, sectional and political agitation for self-determination.‎”

The party advised the APC-led government to urgently employ the services of economic experts to put in place viable policies that will revamp the  ailing economy.
