The appointment of Hadiza Bala Usman as managing director, Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), has drawn criticism from the opposition National Conscience Party (NCP).
In his reaction, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, national president, NCP, described the appointment as wrong.
He said, “While I seriously support electing and appointing our women into governance, the appointment of Hadiza Bala Usman as NPA boss is one wrong appointment too many.”
He added that the appointment has lent credence to the claims of President Muhammadu Buhari’s lopsided appointments favouring the North.
“The government has been accused of lopsided appointment favoring the North; right or wrong, the perception has been established.”
Tanko urged the federal government to reverse the appointment because the Usman lacked the competence to hold the position.
“The lady in question is serving as chief of staff to Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, Governor of kaduna State.
“She also lacks the experience to manage such a large organisation and heading senior professors as staffs under her.
“While we strongly condemn this act, we urge the federal government to reverse this appointment and look for capable hands from the southern part of the country in the spirit of fairness, equity and justice and, above all, the unity of this country,” the NCP said.
