OGUN: Gov Amosun opposes grazing zone for herdsmen

Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun yesterday advocated for the establishment of cattle ranches rather than the grazing zones being proposed by the federal government as panacea to the incessant conflict between farmers and herdsmen across Nigeria.

Amosun made the advocacy in Abeokuta, the state capital while receiving the technical committee on herdsmen/farmers clashes set up by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin.

Amosun, who declared that grazing zones cannot solve the frequent herdsmen/ farmers’ clashes in Nigeria, also called on security all agencies to investigate the nationality of the already identified herdsmen across the country to ascertain whether the killer ones are indeed from the countries as alleged in some quarters.

The governor however, described as very timely, the setting up of the technical committee of the Armed Forces to proffer solution to the crisis, stressing that such is “a step in the right direction”.

Amosun also expressed the opinion that cattle herding in Nigeria should be seen as private business rather than a burden and responsibilities of any government in Nigeria. While urging Nigerians to embrace peace, the governor noted that nothing can be solved with violence.
