After meeting with Buhari, Goje pulls out of Senate Presidency race, endorses Lawan
Danjuma Goje, senator representing Gombe central, has withdrawn from the race to head the senate.
Speaking after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna state, said Goje, a contender for the race, backed out to endorse Ahmad Lawan, the majority leader.
El-Rufai was surrounded by Lawan, Goje and Ìta Enang, senior special assistant to the president on national assembly matters.
The duo had met with the president earlier in the day as a result of the rift in the ruling party over the endorsement of Lawan.
Lawan, who is from Yobe, had been endorsed by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as well as the president but that did not stop two of his colleagues in the north-east – Ali Ndume and Goje – from joining the race.
