Ex PDP National chairman Adamu Mu’azu, Isa Yuguda, 16 others defect to APC in Bauchi

President Muhammadu Buhari at the weekend formally received former governors Ahmadu Adamu Muazu and Isa Yuguda alongside no fewer 16 other prominent members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi.

The defectors were received at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi during the campaign flag-off of the gubernatorial election in the state last Saturday.

While Muazu was the PDP National Chairman when the party lost the presidency to the then opposition APC after being in the saddle for 16 years, Yuguda is the immediate past governor of the state.

Other defectors who joined APC included the suspended PDP Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Babayo Garba Gamawa, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mahmoud Yayale Ahmed, former deputy governor Abdulmalik Mahmood, Abubakar Maikafi, among other prominent politicians.

Handing over the defectors to the National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, APC chairman in the state, Alhaji Uba Nana, commended them for taking the right decision at the appropriate time.

The state chairman appealed to the new members and their supporters to work hard not only towards of emergence of all APC candidates as winners in the coming general elections but also contributing their quotas to the development of the state and the party.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, former governor Yuguda, stated that they were ready to work towards the success of the party in the forthcoming elections.

According to Yuguda, “Now that we are back into the APC fold, we will work assiduously to ensure that the APC win the 2019 elections in a landslide manner even much more than it got in 2015.”

He, however, apologized for what he described as the mistakes of the past in denying President Buhari the use of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium his (Yuguda’) administration during the electioneering of 2014 ahead of the 2015 elections.

On his part, Senator Gamawa, who was suspended as PDP Deputy National Chairman (North) last week, assured that he and his supporters would work for Buhari’s reelection as well other APC candidates, declaring that all APC candidates will win convincingly.

Speaking during the campaign President Buhari assured that his administration will continue to make life easier for all Nigerians without looking back if reelected in next month’s presidential election.

He stated that his administration has kept to his promises made ahead of the 2015 general elections, adding that his administration will continue the fight against corruption, insecurity in the country and create more employment opportunities for the people.

The President called on people of Bauchi State to ensure that they troop out en mass in the forthcoming election days and vote massively for APC candidates in the 2019 general elections.

Doing this, according to the President, will enable the party to complete all ongoing people-oriented developmental projects and programmes not only in the state but also across the country.
